Results can vary to some extent between individuals, and even between individual cold sores or outbreaks. In general, even if Zovirax Cream is applied at the earliest symptoms, cold sores will still develop to some extent; however, the pain, itching and appearance are less severe than they would be without treatment, and sores heal and disappear faster.

If treatment begins at later stages of cold sore development results will likely not be as significant as when treatment begins at the earliest stages.

Zovirax Cream will not prevent future cold sores from developing. There is no benefit to be had by applying the cream to healthy skin prior to experiencing any symptoms.

Adverse Effects

Used properly, side effects are unusual and rarely serious. The most commonly experienced side effects include:

• Mild burning or stinging at application site
• Itching around application site
• Dry or flaking skin around application site
• Dry or cracked lips
